Challenge Grant Given to Truman Medical Centers

Truman Medical Centers has received a challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation for a capital campaign that aims to raise $9.3 million.

The Tulsa-based foundation will contribute $1.9 million if Truman can raise $7.4 million by April 10. The Kansas City hospital already has raised $3.9 million toward that goal. The foundation required the hospital to certify it had raised at least $3.74 million before it could qualify for the challenge grant.

The campaign funds will be used for:
• Relocating and expanding the Hospital Hill oncology center.
• Renovating the family surgery waiting room at Hospital Hill.
• Purchasing and outfitting a mobile dental clinic for children in the Independence School District.
• Upgrading and replacing some medical equipment.

The challenge grant dovetails with an existing campaign by Truman’s Charitable Foundation that aims to raise $1.2 million for patient programs, staffing and endowment.
