Truman Medical Centers Makes $9.3M Fundraising Push

Truman Medical Centers is trying to raise $9.3 million for hospital renovations, health care services and lifesaving equipment, and it’s already off to a running start.

The nonprofit health system said Monday that it will get $1.9 million from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., if it can raise $7.4 million. It already has raised $3.9 million of that, but it must raise the rest by April 10.

“This incredible opportunity for TMC and our community is believed to be one of the largest Mabee challenge grants issued in our region,” James Dawson, executive director of TMC Charitable Foundation, said in a release.

The money would go toward moving and expanding the Oncology Center and renovating the family surgery waiting room at TMC Hospital Hill; buying and outfitting a mobile dental clinic to care for children in the Independence School District; and making key medical equipment upgrades and replacements, according to the release.

The TMC system includes TMC Hospital Hill, TMC Lakewood, TMC Behavioral Health, the Jackson County Health Department and several primary-care practices in Eastern Jackson County.
